Ali's boilerplate Elixir/Phoenix project

I’m seeking new challenges and would like to offer to join and help drive your mission to accelerate the transition to a net-zero economy. That’s a mission most can get behind, but the reason Reel specifically interests me, is your approach: With your focus on electricity and granular measurements of the energy’s origins, and PPA’s that bridge the gap between renewable energy producers and companies, you have found a way to make additionality attractive, or in other words: Make a real impact.

More concretely, I think I’m the right person to work on the tasks involved in this role. I thoroughly enjoy the process of managing, aggregating, transforming and displaying data to end-users, enabling actionable insights. I have substantial experience working with critical backend systems, ensuring stable and reliable operation. I don’t have a background in energy but I’m very eager to learn, and this is why I believe I’m well positioned to make substantial contributions to your team, to build and manage your platform’s data backbone, supporting energy trading, forecasting tools and the customer-facing energy platform.

Beyond that, I’m impact-driven. My primary motivation when building software is to provide concrete value to stakeholders. I prefer pragmatic solutions and “boring”, simple and stable technology, in order to aid business goals and get the job done reliably. I also value understanding the problem domain and will question why we’re building things; more code and complexity is not always the best solution.

I bring solid fundamentals and 13 years of experience building, maintaining and developing production systems. While I have no prior experience with Elixir or Phoenix, I did set up a boilerplate project to get a feel for the language and framework, and first impressions are good. I thrive in an open, transparent culture and in teams that are granted responsibility and autonomy, that are aligned on goals, and strive to deliver high quality. I work well independently and know how to take ownership of and maintain whole systems; I don’t just push out code and move on to the next thing. Lastly, I also believe teams need a good balance of deep, focused work, and coordination or meetings, and for the latter I believe being present in the office is a big benefit.
